Tip of the pro
From tee to target
To send the ball to the target, make sure you take proper aim!
A good backswing will let you drive the club at full speed through the ball. It’s the rotation of the shoulders that brings the arms and club back. A quarter of the way through the backswing, the shaft will be parallel to the ball/target axis. Then the wrists lock while the shoulders continue to turn.
At the end of your backswing, check that the following eight points are met:
- The weight is on the right foot
- The chest is still tilted forward
- The right knee is still bent
- The back is facing the target
- The left shoulder is under the chin
- The left arm is extended, but not stiff
- The shaft is parallel to the ball/target axis
- The face of the club is square (parallel to the left forearm)
