History of the Club

The municipality of Argenteuil, colonized primarily by Scots, was greatly influenced by Anglo-Saxon ways and customs. Le St-André, once known as the St. Andrews Golf and Country Club after the town of St. Andrews in Scotland—the cradle of golf—, is one of the fruits of this influence, and a centrepiece of the local community.

The golf course was landscaped in 1922 on the manor lands of the Seigniory of Argenteuil. The historical monument was protected and restored, and became, over the years, the club house’s main pavilion. Inside, the vestiges of its past are always a star attraction. Well worth a look, for instance, is the immense period fireplace that originally served to heat the building’s rooms.

The St. Andrews Golf and Country Club was sold to the Club de Golf Lachute Canada inc. in 1986. From that time on, it became known as Le St-André, and formed, with Le Lachute, the seeds of a network that is now the largest group of golf courses in Québec.
